post #1: The Moberley Project 2015
January 26 2015
We viewed Moberley Ave. Orillia with our real estate agent, Christine Vollick. We saw:
- a 4 bedroom
- 2- storey house on a
- 100 x 99' lot
- close to the Lightfoot Trail where we
- often walk.
Kitchen with a view of the backyard
Basement laundry and looking through to the utility room with the furnace and hot water heaterIn the next few days, we put in an offer to purchase, but are told another ( higher) offer is also pending. We wait, and find out that the other offer is rejected. So we put in another offer, and it is signed back. We wait, and then decide we really do like the place; even though there is a tarp on the roof, and some lonely pets living there by themselves - four cats, and one lovely little bluebird in a gigantic cage. There may be other critters there too - we just haven't actually seen them. From the tracks in the snow, there are regular 4 - footed visitors all over the place.
Early February: our conditions are waived.
Our current home on Regent Street is listed on the market, and we have some people coming into our house for viewings.
A buyer is interested in buying our Regent Street home, so we talk to the bank, telling them that we need to have both houses for a bit of time in order to re-arrange a few things at Moberley.
The buyer wants the house 4 weeks earlier than we had expected, but that is ok, because Harry always says, "We don't need more time, we need a deadline."
The bank was ok with us having both places for a bit.
Our Contractor: Joel Willms, our nephew from Fonthill, ON says he'll look the place over.
Feb. 14th: Joel and his wife, Rachel, come through Moberley to talk about the job. Joel is ok with doing the upstairs reno of making 4 bedrooms into 3, and installing an extra master bathroom, along with a laundry room too. He's not too keen about re-doing the roof. There's too much snow out there anyway. Rachel is ok with Joel staying over at our place for a week or two.
Christine helps us sign the papers. We will soon own two houses in Orillia - just for a short time.
We shop all over the place for things like:
floor tiles,
wood flooring
bathtubs, shower doors, faucets, toilets, doors, stoves, fridges - oh my! What a lot of shopping! And we haven't even picked out our colours yet.
the Front entrance from inside. I like it because it faces south, so all the snow will melt right away in the spring.
